Maxi Dresses are all the rage come Summer. When I lived in Miami, they were de rigueur nearly year round. The floaty, breathable fabric says yes to humidity and hot weather. Also, the no-wrinkle fabric makes for fuss-free packing. I would enjoy wearing this dress on a Summer Cruise, a casual afternoon at the beach, or even dinner on the sands. The colorful print is great for all body shapes, sizes and ages. The sleeves make it comfortable for those not wanting to bare a lot of arm, while the lower neckline allows space for displaying jewelry.

One of my modern Fashion Icons is Nicole Richie. The way she mixes prints, maxi dresses and color can almost seem like a work of art. She manages to look on trend, while keeping the comfort level relatively high. Lauren Conrad, another modern day muse, lives in maxi dresses. Being a California girl at heart, it's one of her go-to, favorite pieces and Lauren does seem to own a wide variety. Being 5'6" myself, a maxi dress allows me to feel even taller and offers me the chance to wear my tallest of heels. A definite must with maxis: you need height! Which can be easily accomplished in the form of heels or wedges. This allows the dress to keep its long line intact and protects its hem from dragging along the ground. Because the print is so wildly delicious, one wouldn't want to add distraction that could possibly take away from the design. So, when it comes to choosing your accessories, try neutral based tones. Or, if you're feeling a bit bold, pick out one color from the print and expand on it. I chose the turquoise and mixed in the necklace. I wore my beige Chanel bag to add luxe, but not distract from the gorgeous printed dress.

I feel fabulous in this dress. The color is flattering and the silhouette so feminine. I want to run barefoot in a field of flowers, with braids in my hair. My favorite part about being a girl, is how many styles we can choose to wear. This dress fits neatly into my feminine mode. I hope to attend a few parties this Summer in my new red dress. Of course, since the dress is the main focus of this look, I wanted the surrounding pieces to remain classic and simple. Whenever I dress this way, I can't help but think Audrey Hepburn would approve. "Less is more." She was never one for ostentatiousness. Thus, all I needed were sunglasses, black heels, a silver watch and a black bag to match.

What do you think of the way I chose to style this pretty little red maxi dress from Armani Exchange?

If you're wondering how I spend my weekends.. here's a sneak peek. This past Sunday I met up with my best friend Caroline (thanks for the photos!) We started by browsing through the bestsellers at Barnes & Nobles, worked our way to New York pizza for lunch and polished things off with mocha coolers from Caribou. We ended things by perusing BJ's Wholesale Club for movies ... and more books (random I know) but fun nonetheless. When we're together, we're laughing and talking nonstop. Not to mention getting snap-happy. In a way, she's like the sister I never had. Thankfully, blogging brought us together.

P.S. Are you reading THE HUNGER GAMES? I haven't.. should I?

I felt as if I had stepped into a modern day Cinderella fairytale when I wore this dress to lunch today. The length was so fun to swish and twirl around in. The on trend pleating and color divine, I really can't wait to wear this dress again soon. The coral adorned bracelet on my arm is courtesy of Bevello, a local Boutique in Raleigh. And finally, the debut of my new, vintage Chanel bag from Adore. This beautiful Chanel bag has many stories to tell (and share) with me...

What are your plans for the rest of the day? :)

The moment I pulled this dress on, I was immediately transported to a varied set of memories from my life. When I first saw Pocahontas in theaters as a kid. High school, attending outdoor concerts. My past obsession with the movie The Indian in the Cupboard and daydreaming on the beach... Summer feels like it's quickly approaching!

In other news: I spent my weekend upgrading from PC to Mac. Any info for newbies, set in their old PC ways? Also, I can't help myself from reaching for my red nail lacquer bottles. I really want to change things up now that temperatures are starting to rise. Recommend away all the nail polish colors you're wearing and craving today? :)

Qué Sera Sera?

Last night we went out to dinner, think quaint bistro. Anyway, after 4 days of fighting off a nasty head cold, followed by another headache the size of Manhattan, the night out was much welcomed as well as required. I love to wear a dress every now and then, and lately, maxis seem to be my go-to preference....

Pink Martini is what you are listening to. Something about this song brings me back to Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz and classic Hollywood films starring Greta Garbo and Rita Haywood! :)

Earrings: Christmas present. Maxi dress: Forever 21. Bracelet: Vintage. Heels: Manolo Blahnik.

Waiting for my Ship to come, but my Ship's not coming back ...

After enjoying a leisurely brunch in Miami Beach at News Cafe, I decided to pop into Barnes & Noble on my way home. Namely to pick up the Kate Moss Style book. To my dismay, it was already SOLD OUT!!!! Did anyone manage to get their hands on it? I want details!! For now, it will just have to go on my ever expanding Christmas Wish List ...

They say it's my Birthday!

After much contemplation over which Restaurant I wanted to go to for my Birthday dinner, we all ended up at this quaint little Bistro downtown. They specialized in all things Pasta, seafood and French cuisine! I dined amongst my friends and family on homemade Raviolis stuffed with a creamy blend of sun dried tomato, basil and goat cheese all set atop a bed of baby arugla. The sweetest part? They were drizzled with a delectably rich walnut sauce. Yum. I also had a side of steamed spinach marinated in a buttery pepper sauce. The bread they served at the beginning came with this amazing balsamic vinegar and olive oil mix garnished with oregano and parsley. I almost ate the bread and sauce all by myself! It was just that good. For dessert, we came home and had bite size brownie cupcakes and vanilla cake. I got gift cards (for books & clothes) earrings, some money and a few movies. All in all it was a pretty great 26th Birthday. The only thing missing?? ALL OF YOU. Wish you were there. Your warmest wishes, celebratory comments and love, all mean so much. Thank you! You're all in my heart, at all times. xo/ fashion chalet!!
