My Mom was actually the one who taught me the art of scarves. She always said it's the best accessory a girl can have. And she was right. Take any ... what could be plain outfit ... say jeans and a tank top with flip flops- thrown on a scarf and, voila! One of my modern day fashion icons- Nicole Richie is a believer of this philosophy it seems. As she is always spotted in a scarf of some sort. She has multitudes of colorful veils. Now, if only I could raid her stash! ;)

Mixing primary colors seemed the way to go with this look of the day. Superman isn't the only one who can pull off the blue and red mix with panache ;) I find myself equally drawn to these colors. I'm excited to find plenty of different ways to wear my new blue trench coat. Any ideas? :)

One of my favorite movies is Pretty Woman. Julia Roberts is such a charming actress. The love story that plays out between Roberts and Richard Gere has to be one of the most romantic and adorable stories. Who knows if I was hoping for the same kind of romance when I first purchased these boots? I find them sexy, fun and fashion-forward. I decided to take them out for this outfit today-- before all Hell breaks loose and the sweltering sun comes out for good. So say hello, and then bye-bye until Fall/Winter 2012. ;)

P.S. Did you notice Kate Moss on my shirt? I love that photo of her.

If you're wondering how I spend my weekends.. here's a sneak peek. This past Sunday I met up with my best friend Caroline (thanks for the photos!) We started by browsing through the bestsellers at Barnes & Nobles, worked our way to New York pizza for lunch and polished things off with mocha coolers from Caribou. We ended things by perusing BJ's Wholesale Club for movies ... and more books (random I know) but fun nonetheless. When we're together, we're laughing and talking nonstop. Not to mention getting snap-happy. In a way, she's like the sister I never had. Thankfully, blogging brought us together.

One of my favorite colors to mix with pink, aside from black, is gray. I pulled this coat out from the back of my wardrobe recently and fell in love with it all over again. The last time I wore it was here. And as one astute reader recently commented about my choice in shoes... nope, I can't get enough of these Topshop ankle boots. Not only are they comfortable, but they go with just about everything. My challenge is working them into my summer style.. let's see.. ;)

I thrive on wearing black. I don't know what it is about the color, I always seem to be drawn to it when shopping. Especially when it comes to shoes and bags. Maybe because it's always fun to break up the dark palette with blindingly bright pieces? This neon pink waffle knit is a current favorite. Pink is such a fun color especially when it's as bright as this one. How do you like today's look of the day?

Today's outfit was styled by me when I was approached for a new work assignment: "masculine meets feminine." Local shop, Fabrik donated the Blazer. I hand selected the piece for both its intricate design and uncanny resemblance to something the House of Chanel would create.

The look and feel of a high waisted pair of riding pants is a great transitioning piece from Fall to Winter. This time, I chose to pair them with a form fitting shirt and sky-high platform heels. As you can see, I kept the silhouette slim and the palette simple. I decided to make the jacket the main focus of this look. Keeping everything else around it fuss-free. I stayed within a black and white motif and only wore a pair of dangly earrings to accessorize. The Chanel bag and teeteringly tall heels, the exclamation point!
