The first time that I saw the Sex and the City series, I was of course enthralled. The image of Carrie Bradshaw's tutu in the opening sequence may have been controversial for some but definitely iconic to me. It defined fashion as fun. That's how I like to look at dressing up, a time to become a different character on a whim. To this day (and for many years to come, I'm sure) Sex and The City will continue to inspire women...and her love of shoes. Now tell me, what do you think of my new balletic skirt?

P.S. I'm on Facebook now.

Remembering Sex and the City: 10 Points

Sex and the City, Fashion collage, Carrie Bradshaw, New York Fashion Week

I never actually watched the Sex and the City series until way after it was off the air. I came across the DVD's in the library one summer afternoon, when I still lived in Ft. Lauderdale. I rented Season 3, Disc 2. Which was weird for me, considering I always have to watch everything in order. I remember flying through the episodes and heading back to the library for more. After finishing Season 3, I purchased the book and the box set.

I thought I would commemorate some of my favorite Carrie Bradshaw moments today:

1. How Vogue fed her.
2. When she became fashion roadkill.
3. Shooting the cover of her book with sky-high stilettos and a pink mac laptop.
4. The night she left Aidan in bed for a glow-in-the-dark club.
5. Sharing a corner of a Parisian cafe with a huge dog and a cigarette.
6. Fainting at the extravagant gestures from Aleksandr Petrovsky to later dancing at McDonald's in a pink, Oscar de la Renta dress.

Only Carrie, right?

7. What about the time she wore a myriad of pearls around her neck to dinner.
8. In season 6, Carrie lost a pair of Manolo Blahnik silver d'Orsays after going to a party.
9. And we all remember how she got dumped by a Post-it, right?
10. What about running in heels chasing after Aidan's dog Pete in the middle of the night?

She set trends, recycled them and renewed them. She even invented new fashion rules. For instance tracks shorts and heels, Gucci fanny-packs, or a Juicy Couture tube dress paired with a blazer. Things we never would have thought to do before Carrie, or Patricia Fields. "Carrie Bradshaw" was and still is “IT”!

OK, so by now you can probably tell that Carrie Bradshaw is my favorite, as she is for practically every other woman who watches the show. She is the most relatable after all. I adore her quirky scream and infectious laughter. Oh, and her insatiable taste for pricey shoes, Vogue and handsome men. However, I can't help but love the other three as well. Let's not forget Samantha, who always said what I was thinking, out loud and crystal clear! She always made me giggle or blush. Miranda could be bossy and rather cynical, yeah I can be that way sometimes too. And Charlotte, the soft spoken, always pulled together brunette. Although, not quite as naïve, I'm just as old fashioned when it comes to love and romance.

Flowers for Algernon

{Guess denim vest, Vintage romper and bag, Hypnotic heels}

Dior Extreme + Carrie Bradshaw

Inspired by both literature and Carrie Bradshaw, my look was born. Fashion is about comfort and taking risks with the mix. It's really a very fun process to rummage through your closet, finding pieces you've completely forgotten about. Before Fall officially begins and the last of the leaves fall, a floral printed romper and denim vest it is!

I Heart New York

My trip to Manhattan was a great success. The first day was spent walking, exploring and noshing on goodies. Red Stone Pizzeria makes the yummiest veggie pizza and cranberry turkey wraps ever. I finally got to go inside of H&M and Zara, although I was too rushed for time to shop. The best part of that first day was finally getting to meet up with blogger friend and New York native, Karen (Where Did U Get That?) and having a photo shoot session taken of us together. The location? Where else but the New York Public Library where Carrie Bradshaw chose to wed Big in the Sex and The City film. *You can see more photos of us, including dining at Serafina in Karen's blog here.

Thank you for the Feature StyleCaster.com it about made my year!! YES, YES, YES!

Mikimoto Pearls

The Sex and The City series is known for putting Mikimoto pearls on their girls; Carrie Bradshaw (aka Sarah Jessica Parker) in particular. I don't know about you but I am waiting with bated breath for the release of Sex and The City the Movie part deux. I have this weird thing where I have to watch it on DVD though, I don't like the theater environment, too many people and interruptions. So, I hope the movie release date is fast, so that I can get my hands on a copy of that DVD. The sooner the better. Carrie Bradshaw and her best friends have a way of making me smile, cry, laugh, feel elation and become inspired all through their dialogue, city lifestyle and witty comments. I love you and thank you both, Michael Patrick King and Darren Star, for creating these 4 remarkable characters and being able to bring them to life so well! Patricia Field, I want to meet you, talk with you and above all, shop through your closets on set!! This is the show I turn to whenever I am feeling a void....

You can find beautiful Mikimoto pearls and Michel watches at JR Dunn.

Tango in Paris

Houstina over at Cowgirl Heaven send over the loveliest ruffled vest. A nice way to shift, with ease, from summer into fall. It's as soft as it is stylish. Ever since I saw Shall We Dance (first the Japanese version, and then the US one) I fell in love with both the story; romantic and comical, and the music. Right now you're listening to the song Jennifer Lopez and Richard Gere dance to in the American version. This post is also the debut of my Carrie Bradshaw heels. Can you believe that I bought these many moons ago and haven't, until recently, remembered to wear them? No, they aren't Dior, but yes, they are just as lovely to wear and look at. Oh and I was very excited today when I found out that I am on StyleSite here is the screen cap.

I call this The Carrie Bradshaw!

Call it playing dress up or call it reality. What difference does it really make? If you're happy with the outcome, that is what counts most, right? And that is what I pull from Sarah Jessica Parker and her alter ego, Carrie Bradshaw. Yes! every. single. time. that I watch Sex and the City; Carrie inspires me like nothing else. Each episode is like unwrapping a Christmas present, only leaving me with the urge to dig through my closet and come up with something new and different and always, very Carrie.

Voila!

What's your Secret Single Behavior?

  • I also enjoy saltine crackers with jelly, except I prefer strawberry. I'll have to try it the Carrie way though, with Vogue!
  • I always drink a bottle of Voss or Fiji water before bed while reading Nylon magazine.
  • Giving myself pedicures and manicures right after a shower.
  • I love to have lunch, watching TV uninterrupted, when nobody else is home.
  • I give myself facial masks and then sip lemon iced tea while watching Gilmore girls reruns, letting it work on my face.
  • I hide fruit in the fridge in a secret spot just for me.
  • Making Mocha Cafe with marshmallow creamer every morning to drink before work.
  • Watching "girly" TV on DVD just before bed while eating a freshly made fruit salad.

A Year in Review

I thought it fit today to blog about some of my current favorites for 2009 as well as some favorites that haunted me through 2008 and still today. I am anxiously anticipating the arrival of my body con double-U neck minidress from American Apparel, in black with long sleeves. The perfect classic; alone or layered. Cat has convinced me to hit the mall today for some studded rings (as has MK Olsen) and Melissa talked me into making a stop at the bookstore for the perfect Fashion book. I'm craving multichain necklaces as well. I cannot wait to incorporate all of these trends and new ideas into my blog this year. I do have some secrets up my sleeve, all neatly written out in shopping list format, of course. I hope to score some of them today. If not, there's always tomorrow.

XO

UPDATE:
I ended up getting:
  • a slew of rings
  • a new scarf
  • a bracelet
  • and some very Carrie Bradshaw shoes!! xx
  • I had to order the book online, along with another ring and necklace. :]
