Garden Tea Party

At second glance, New York Fashion Week left me craving something sugary sweet with my bright colors. Betsey Johnson paid homage to the late Alexander McQueen with Alice in Wonderland like signs, while models festooned in Western wear paraded within a Saloon set atmosphere. Rebecca Taylor kept the colors pastel, the fabrics soft and the models channeling school girl garb. Generra mixed basics with tie-dye prints, dark knee socks and chunky ankle boots. The teal accents, spotted suede and funky mix of free-range patterns at Custo Barcelona had my heart skipping a beat or two. DKNY played up blazers as short dresses with laced platform oxfords and thick knits for a finished, fresh and easy-to-pull-together look. Cynthia Steffe utilized knee socks, berets and french je ne sais quoi? confidence to complete an effortless chic vibe that clearly came through on stage. The paint splattered prints, stick-thin pants and metallics at Nima made me want to transport back to 1998, listen to the Smashing Pumpkins, Silver Chair, Nirvana and the Stone Temple Pilots while wearing such contrasting couture.

Diane von Furstenberg toyed with metallics, mastered the long sweater coat and reminded us of her love for pom-pom hats and shiny accessories once again. And, 3 claps for Abbey Lee Kershaw!
